The Scottish Premiership season is scheduled to commence this Friday. This season will see five managers begin permanent tenures at clubs, including Derek McInnes at Rangers and Wouter Vrancken at Hearts.
Hearts, who were league leaders for much of last season, have seen their squad deconstructed with the departure of boss Derek McInnes, captain Lawrence Shankland, and midfielder Cammy Devlin. Wouter Vrancken has arrived from Sint-Truiden, and the team was eliminated from Champions League qualifying after a 6-0 loss to Sturm Graz.
At Celtic, Martin O'Neill remains as boss following last season's domestic double. The club has made two signings, Camilo Duran and Kasper Hogh, for reported combined fees of approximately £15m. However, forward Daizen Maeda has left to join Ipswich Town.
Derek McInnes has moved to Rangers, with Lawrence Shankland appointed as the new skipper. Rangers have also acquired South Africa defender Olwethu Makhanya and young Serbia international midfielder Vanja Dragojevic. Long-term captain James Tavernier, goalkeeper Jack Butland, and forward Oliver Antman have left the club.
VAR will continue to be a talking point, with associations recently advised that it should only intervene in "blatant" incidents. This marks the fifth season of VAR's use in Scottish football.
