A specialist fire service dog, Davey, has retired after more than nine years of service. Davey joined Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) in 2017 after being rehomed from the Dogs Trust.
He was trained as a "highly skilled" urban search and rescue dog and supported major operations, including helping to locate survivors after earthquakes in Turkey, Morocco, and Venezuela. LFRS stated that he supported humanitarian efforts "in some of the most difficult conditions imaginable."
Davey also represented the UK in Switzerland during the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) external reclassification. He has been recognised as the International Fund for Animal Welfare International Search and Rescue Dog of the Year and at Crufts for his achievements. Labrador Finn will take over Davey's operational duties.
