Shaun Murphy has broken Ronnie O’Sullivan’s 12-year record for the most unanswered points in a professional snooker match. Murphy achieved 607 points without reply during his 6-0 victory over Matthew Selt at the China Open in Taiyuan.
The previous record of 556 unanswered points was set by O’Sullivan in a 6-0 win against Ricky Walden at the 2014 Masters. Murphy's breaks included 18, 61, 132, 103, 139, 113, and 41.
Murphy also equalled the record of four consecutive centuries, compiling successive century breaks from frames two to five. He now joins Mark Allen and Neil Robertson as the only players to have achieved this feat twice.
In other tournament news, Ronnie O’Sullivan recovered from a 2-0 deficit to beat Jackson Page 6-2. However, world number one Judd Trump's unbeaten start to the season ended with a 6-3 defeat to Noppon Saengkham.
