Ben Shelton stunned defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set epic to reach the US Open semi-finals, winning 6-7, 6-1, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 in four hours and 31 minutes.
The match finished at 3:35am ET, the latest finish in US Open history, beating the previous record of 2:50am set in 2022.
Shelton, the world No 9, delighted the home crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium to secure a third grand slam semi-final appearance and his second at Flushing Meadows.
Alcaraz, who was bidding for an eighth slam and third title in New York, took the first set in a tiebreak, but Shelton responded by winning the next two sets. Alcaraz forced a decider by taking the fourth set 6-1.
In the fifth set, Shelton rallied and clinched a 10-point tiebreak 10-7 with an ace, setting up a semi-final against Frances Tiafoe.
