The musical 'A History of Paper', written by the late playwright Oliver Emanuel and composer Gareth Williams, is currently being performed at Pitlochry Festival Theatre. The production stars Shirley Henderson and Alan Cumming as tenement neighbours in a love story told through paper items such as postcards and receipts.
Directed by Andrew Panton, the play features Henderson and Cumming delivering performances described as subtle and light. Henderson's performance is noted for its unpredictable nature, blending talk-singing with melodic heights in duets with Cumming under Gavin Whitworth’s musical direction.
The musical, which began as a BBC radio drama in 2016 and was reworked as a small-scale musical two years ago, will run at Pitlochry Festival Theatre until September 12. It will then move to Dundee Rep, where it will be performed from September 16 to 19.
