Simon Russell Beale makes a dramatic entrance as Liberace in Martin Sherman's new play, 'I’ll Be Seeing You', currently showing at Pitlochry Festival Theatre. Beale appears mid-air, adorned in a silver cape and spangly waistcoat, embodying the flamboyant style of the American showbiz pianist.
The play features Fra Fee as a writer commissioned by the Pitlochry Festival Theatre to create a work about Liberace. However, the writer reportedly despises everything the entertainer represents, including his materialism and a 1959 court action where Liberace denied his sexuality.
Sherman, aged 87, explores the conflict between the writer's disdain for Liberace's perceived deceit and the pianist's untamed life force. The production is co-directed by Ben Occhipinti and Alan Cumming.
