Sir Chris Hoy, the six-time Olympic sprint cycling champion, has been living with stage 4 prostate cancer for nearly three years. He was diagnosed in September 2023 after a scan for a shoulder pain revealed a tumour, with a subsequent scan identifying the primary cancer in his prostate, which had spread to his pelvis, hip, spine, ribs, and shoulder.
Hoy is working to highlight that prostate cancer kills more people in the UK than any other disease. He also aims to raise awareness that 10,000 men annually receive a stage 4 prostate cancer diagnosis, stressing the need for men to understand the risk.
Despite his diagnosis and recent injuries, including a serious mountain biking accident in November and a torn meniscus last month, Hoy continues to cycle. He recently completed a charity ride across Spain with other riders, including five-time Tour de France winner Miguel Induráin.
