England's historic 1966 World Cup triumph is being celebrated with the release of two new films, marking 60 years since the nation's only major international men’s football victory. The films feature Sir Geoff Hurst, the sole surviving member of the victorious squad, alongside fans who were present at the iconic final at Wembley Stadium.
Sir Geoff's legendary hat-trick, scored in the 4-2 victory over West Germany on 30 July, remains a pivotal moment in sporting history. Reflecting on the day, Hurst shared that the memory of coming up the tunnel to 96,000 spectators will always stay with him, noting the event's lasting impact on people who still recall where they were.
The second film introduces supporters Norman Cooper, Ray Liberty, and Derek Scott, all of whom attended the final and later became friends through their shared patronage of a Watford pub. Former BBC cameraman Harry Coventry also features, recalling the electric atmosphere but lamenting missing the iconic shot of Hurst's hat-trick goal.
