The stage erupted into chaos on Saturday night as Angine de Poitrine brought the house down with an unforgettable performance at the Montreal Jazz Festival. The enigmatic Quebecois duo, known for their outrageous costumes and microtonal guitar riffs, left a trail of fans in awe – but also six hospitalised after the show.
Urgences-santé's paramedics were on high alert as they assessed 10 individuals during the event, with four declining hospital transport after being seen by medical teams. The others weren't so lucky, with six taken to hospital for treatment. Head of operations Benjamin Dansereau-Leclerc confirmed that calls included falls, traumatic injuries, and cases of intoxication – but thankfully, no lives were at risk.
Montreal Jazz Festival general manager Maurin Aux was still basking in the glow of the show on social media, hailing it as "A historic night at the Festival... One of the biggest crowds in our history, thanks to Angine! And an energy like we've rarely seen." Angine de Poitrine's rapid rise to fame is nothing short of astonishing – and their devoted fans are loving every minute of it.
The duo's distinctive style blends microtonal guitar, intricate drumming, and influences from progressive rock to punk. Their second album, 'Vol. II', dropped in April, and they've already snagged a spot on the coveted bill at End Of The Road and Manchester Psych Fest this September. And with headline dates lined up across the UK – including shows in Leeds, Glasgow, Dublin, Bristol, and two nights at London's Troxy – British fans won't have to wait long to experience their unique live performance.
