The stage is set for a fresh era of cinematic innovation at the British Film Institute (BFI) as six trailblazing new governors join forces with four seasoned veterans in a bold bid to drive forward the UK's thriving film and television industries. Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport has announced the raft of high-profile appointments, designed to inject a shot of adrenaline into the BFI's strategic direction.
Among the newcomers are Tanya Cordrey, a tech-savvy titan with a background at Instagram and Guardian News & Media, and Mark Herbert, co-founder of Warp Films, whose productions have left audiences in awe – think 'This Is England' for starters. They're joined by Ganan Kanagathurai, a hospitality and creative sector entrepreneur, and Emmy Award-winning producer Hakan Kousetta, who's been a vocal advocate for the production community.
Further bolstering the board are Ryan Prince, Vice Chair of Realstar Group and founder of UNCLE – a residential rental company with a knack for getting things done, and Jane Tranter CBE, a highly experienced television executive and producer with a wealth of knowledge to share. Their terms kick in this June or July 2026, setting the stage for four years of fresh perspectives and ideas.
The Secretary of State has also confirmed the reappointment of four current governors: Monica Chadha, Elizabeth Karlsen, Edgar Wright, and Andrew Ruhemann – a veritable A-list of industry insiders who bring continuity, experience, and invaluable insights to the table.
