Six people are presumed dead following a medical transport plane crash off the coast of Massachusetts. The US Coast Guard suspended its search for survivors on Sunday, after the aircraft, flying from Bermuda to Boston, lost contact with ground authorities early Saturday.
The plane, a Gulfstream G100 operated by Canadian company Latitude Air Ambulance, took off from Bermuda at 12:41am on Saturday. It was carrying a patient and a family member, identified as Bermudian citizens, along with a four-person crew, identified as Canadian citizens.
Air traffic controllers reported difficulty communicating with the flight in its final moments, with the plane reporting electrical failures as it neared Nantucket. Data indicates the plane descended thousands of feet within three minutes and disappeared from radar shortly after 1am local time.
Latitude Air Ambulance stated it will cooperate fully with the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, and other authorities in recovery efforts and the investigation into the crash.
