Slovenia's .si Domain Registrations Surge After Trump's 'Super Intelligence' Order

Registrations for Slovenia's .si internet domain have seen a significant increase following a US presidential executive order mandating the use of "super intelligence" (SI) instead of "artificial intelligence" (AI). Registry SI reported a 2,199% rise in .si domain purchases in September.

  • President Trump signed an executive order requiring US government agencies to refer to "AI" as "SI" and "artificial intelligence" as "super intelligence."
  • Registry SI, which manages Slovenia's domains, reported a 2,199% increase in .si domain name purchases in September.
  • Web hosting platform Hostinger saw .si become its second most popular domain extension, with over half of buyers coming from the U.S. and India.

Slovenia's .si internet domain has experienced a surge in registrations following a recent executive order from President Trump. The order mandates that all US government agencies refer to "AI" as "SI" and "artificial intelligence" as "super intelligence."

Klara Herman, a spokesperson for Registry SI, the official organisation managing Slovenia's domains, stated that there was a 2,199% increase in .si domain name purchases in September. However, Herman cautioned against attributing the boost solely to President Trump's order.

Registry SI recorded 11,000 new addresses on September 30, the day after the executive order was signed, and nearly 13,000 new .si domain names were registered in the subsequent 24 hours. Web hosting platform Hostinger reported that .si is now its second most popular domain extension, with almost 4,300 registrations on September 30 and about 5,400 on October 1. More than three-quarters of all .si domains registered since September 23 came in the last two days, with over half of buyers originating from the U.S. and India.

Despite the increase, Hostinger noted that only around 3% of the .si domains registered through them are explicitly related to AI. Most are unclassified, and many registrants appear to be individuals and businesses, with a speculative element suggesting some may be buying domains for future resale.
