SNL UK has taken aim at US comedian Shane Gillis following his controversial appearance as a guest host on the American version of Saturday Night Live. Comedian Ania Magliano delivered a strong rebuke during the 'Weekend Update' segment of SNL UK.

Gillis sparked controversy last week after making a joke about women's gymwear during his opening monologue on SNL, stating, "I didn’t realise women just dressed like whores now." This comment was met with groans and jeers from the audience.

Magliano's segment included a direct swipe at Gillis. After referencing a story about free cycling shorts at Munich Oktoberfest to protect women from upskirting, an image of Gillis's monologue flashed behind her. She then made a further joke at his expense, referencing his accidental swearing on SNL by saying, "Oh Shane, you’re not allowed to say that, you stupid f***ing c**t."

Gillis has a complicated history with SNL, having been hired as a cast member in 2019 but fired before his debut due to resurfaced podcast clips containing homophobic and racist jokes. He later apologised to "anyone actually offended" by his comedy.

SNL UK has gained a reputation in its second series for critiquing public figures, including politicians, royalty, and entertainment personalities.
