The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has confirmed that South Africa is among seven countries that have shown interest in hosting the 2036 Summer Olympics. South Africa's proposal involves hosting the Games across three cities: Cape Town, Durban, and Johannesburg.
Hungary, India, Qatar, and Turkey are also engaged in "continuous dialogue" with the IOC, aiming to become first-time hosts. Germany and South Korea, both of whom have previously hosted summer Games, are also in discussions.
The IOC has set a deadline of 31 October for submissions of stated interest. Virtual presentations will be given by interested parties to the IOC's future host commission in November, with feasibility assessments expected by March 2027.
