South Korea's prime minister, Han Seong-sook, has met with officials to prepare for heavy rain anticipated this week. Forecasts indicate that rainfall totals across central and northern parts of the country could exceed 200mm in some areas.
The heavy rain is attributed to a series of severe thunderstorms that developed over the Yellow Sea, which has a surface temperature of 29C, 4C above the climatological average. These storms are expected to push eastwards on Monday before easing on Tuesday, potentially causing disruption.
Elsewhere, parts of central and southern Europe are forecast to experience intensifying heat later this week, with temperatures rising to 10C above the climatological average. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, temperatures could reach approximately 40C by the weekend.
Thailand is also under a warning for heavy to very heavy rain, while the province of Tarlac in the Philippines has been placed under a state of calamity due to prolonged heavy rain in August.
