Southampton head coach Tonda Eckert's future remains uncertain as his Football Association (FA) misconduct hearing, related to the Spygate scandal, is likely to take place in mid-September. Eckert was charged by the FA on 22 July for his involvement in the incident that saw Saints removed from last season's Championship play-offs.
The ongoing FA investigation is examining who participated in the spying and the culpability of those aware of it. Southampton's Championship campaign begins on Sunday, and the outcome of the hearing, which could include a lengthy ban, may significantly impact their season.
Saints owner Dragan Solak previously stated in early June that he would not sack Eckert, believing the German coach deserved a second chance. However, a substantial ban could override this decision. Group technical director Johannes Spors indicated the club is preparing for various scenarios, though he hopes for a positive outcome.
Eckert, whose contract runs until the end of the current season, revealed he used the summer to study EFL rules and connect with experienced managers. The club's intern, Will Salt, involved in the controversy, is reportedly set to be appointed to a permanent analyst role.
