SpaceX has spent $329 million on Tesla Megapacks so far this year, with $295 million of that occurring in the second quarter.

  • SpaceX purchased $295 million worth of Tesla Megapacks in the second quarter of 2026.
  • The total expenditure on Megapacks by SpaceX this year reached $329 million.
  • The industrial-scale batteries are likely being deployed at the company's xAI data centres.

SpaceX has significantly increased its purchases of Tesla Megapacks, spending $329 million on the battery storage devices this year. This includes $295 million spent in the second quarter alone, according to the company's earnings report released on Tuesday.

These industrial-scale batteries are likely being deployed at SpaceX's xAI data centres. Before xAI merged with SpaceX, the AI company had previously acquired $430 million worth of Megapacks for its data centres.

Batteries like the Megapack are crucial for data centres, providing backup power and helping to manage fluctuating power demands from training AI models. They can smooth out power peaks, which may lower costs and ensure consistent operation.
