Spotify has announced a new labelling system designed to help users identify artists and content generated by artificial intelligence. This initiative follows a significant increase in AI-generated music online, with Deezer reporting that AI-generated music recently surpassed 50% of daily uploads on its platform.
From mid-September, an “AI Persona” badge will be added to certain profiles. This badge will be visible on the artist's profile, in search results, and on track rows within playlists, allowing listeners to distinguish between human artists and AI-generated platforms.
Additionally, Spotify will ensure that music from AI Personas is excluded from editorial and algorithmic recommendations, unless a user already follows such personas. Artists can begin disclosing if their profile represents an AI Persona via Spotify for Artists from today, 12 August 2026. Spotify also plans to conduct reviews to identify profiles that do not self-disclose, and later this year, listeners will be able to report suspected AI persona profiles to a review team.
These changes specifically aim to identify whether a profile represents a human, rather than how music was created, as human artists may also use AI in their music production. Spotify has previously introduced features such as Verified By Spotify, AI Credits, and SongDNA to provide context on music creation and artists.
