Tottenham Hotspur's struggle for goals continued as they played out a 0-0 draw against Everton, extending their goalless Premier League streak to 407 minutes. This marks the first time in the club's history across all four tiers that they have failed to score in their opening four league matches.
The match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium also represented the first goalless draw in the venue's 140-game Premier League history. Manager Roberto de Zerbi apologised to fans, stating, "I'm sorry to the fans. We are sorry to the fans."
Despite spending over £300m in the summer, much of it aimed at boosting their attacking edge, Spurs have yet to find the net this season. Their last league goal came against Everton on the final day of last season.
Summer signing Mateus Fernandes registered Spurs' first shot on target after 46 minutes. Richarlison, the 29-year-old Brazil striker, was not included in De Zerbi's Premier League squad amid a contract dispute, after a proposed return to Everton and a switch to Vasco da Gama both failed to materialise.
