St Helens head coach Paul Rowley has stepped down from his position with the Super League club, effective immediately. The decision comes less than a year into Rowley's tenure, which began before the 2026 season. The 51-year-old joined the club after leaving Salford Red Devils, where he had been head coach for four seasons.
Under Rowley's leadership, St Helens struggled to maintain their form, with the team currently sixth in the table and six points behind leaders Leeds Rhinos. The club has also lost six of their past 10 games in all competitions, with injuries playing a significant role in their decline.
Chairman Eamonn McManus acknowledged the challenges Rowley faced during his time at the club, praising his achievements despite the difficulties. Assistant coach Eamon O'Carroll will take over on an interim basis, bringing his experience from various coaching roles, including spells with Catalans Dragons and Newcastle Thunder.
Rowley's departure comes ahead of the club's derby against Wigan Warriors, a match that could prove crucial in the team's push for a spot in the play-offs.
