The island has no main roads and no airport, with a population of 135 residents. It is accessible by ferry or a short flight from Cornwall to St Mary’s, followed by a boat.

Scotland's Isle of Skye also made the top 20, ranking 11th. The island has over 1,600 square kilometres of moor and mountain shared by approximately 10,000 people.

The global index, which analysed islands against criteria including road density, untouched nature, and air traffic, named New Zealand's Stewart Island as the quietest island in the world. Greece's Anafi came in second place.
