Starcloud, a company focused on developing satellites for AI inference in orbit, has announced a $250 million extension to its Series A funding round. This additional capital increases the company's valuation to $2.3 billion.
The new funding is intended to support the opening of a larger manufacturing facility and advance the development of its Starcloud-3 orbital data centre spacecraft. Starcloud-3 is designed to fly on SpaceX's Starship rocket.
Starcloud CEO Philip Johnston stated that the company is also accumulating capital to secure launch capacity, anticipating a tightening market for rocket transportation. The company has requested permission from the FCC to operate 88,000 spacecraft.
For 2027, Starcloud aims to launch two of its new generation 8 kw compute satellites, known as Starcloud-2, on rideshare flights. These satellites are intended to perform orbital inference tasks for clients, including US government agencies.
