The Stroud District Council has issued a RED Heat Health Alert as temperatures are set to soar across the UK. The alert, which is in place until further notice, advises residents to take extra precautions to stay cool and safe during the heatwave.
According to the Met Office, temperatures are expected to reach record highs, with a high of 38C predicted in some areas. The organisation has issued a red warning for extreme heat, which is the highest level of alert possible.
NHS guidelines recommend staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water and avoiding strenuous activities during hot weather. It's also essential to check on vulnerable neighbours and family members, especially older adults and young children, who may be more susceptible to heat-related illnesses.
Dr Ruth Hussey, Chair of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), said: 'Heatwaves can have serious health implications, particularly for those with pre-existing medical conditions. We urge everyone to take necessary precautions to stay safe during this hot weather.'
