Stella Lefty is once again facing allegations of plagiarism, with her song 'Why Wouldn’t We' drawing comparisons to Blake Shelton's 2017 hit 'I’ll Name The Dogs'. Released as a single earlier this year and featured on her debut album 'Long Way Home' last month, 'Why Wouldn’t We' has been highlighted online for its common ground with Shelton's track.
Reports suggest similarities in both the music and melodies, as well as the lyrical themes. Both songs reportedly address the subject of fairly dividing day-to-day responsibilities as a relationship progresses.
Lefty is credited as a songwriter on 'Why Wouldn’t We' alongside Emily Weisband, Grady Block, and Steph Jones. The writing credits for 'I’ll Name The Dogs' go to Matt Dragstrem, Ben Hayslip, and Josh Thompson. Neither Lefty nor Shelton have publicly commented on these comparisons.
This is not the first time Lefty has faced such accusations. Her song 'Boston' previously drew comparisons to Noah Kahan’s 'Stick Season', with Kahan now having a songwriting credit on 'Boston'. Lefty stated at the time, "When I was writing this song, I wasn’t thinking about Noah Kahan. I was literally thinking about nothing at all." Another of her songs, 'Summer You Were Mine', has also been noted for similarities to The Chicks’ 'There’s Your Trouble', with the original songwriters Tia Sillers and Mark Selby credited on Lefty's track.
