Heavy snowfall from Storm Goretti created treacherous conditions in Birmingham on a university graduation day. The forecast had predicted significant snow, prompting one graduate to take a bus rather than drive.

Despite successfully attending the ceremony, the bus journey home was cut short when the vehicle broke down a kilometre from the graduate's house as the snow intensified. Passengers were then forced to walk through the blizzard, with the graduate's mother, in her late 60s, reportedly struggling.

Taxis were unavailable, and attempts to flag down passing cars were unsuccessful. Eventually, a driver named Leo, waiting outside a pub, was convinced to transport the two women home. The journey, which should have taken five minutes, extended to 40 minutes due to the hazardous road conditions, with cars reportedly skidding.
