A 21-year-old student in Texas unexpectedly gave birth to a baby girl in February 2026, having been unaware she was pregnant. The student, who was 19 in 2023, was on the pill and careful with contraception.
She noticed a 10lb weight gain by January 2026, which she attributed to snacking and lack of exercise. On 20 February, after experiencing cramps, she gave birth to her daughter, Navie, at her apartment.
Doctors at the hospital explained she had experienced a cryptic pregnancy, a condition where a woman does not realise she is pregnant. The placenta's position at the front made it harder for her to feel any movement. She had continued taking the pill and had regular monthly bleeds, with no morning sickness, cravings, bloating, or tiredness.
Initially considering adoption due to their ages and finances, the student and her boyfriend decided to keep Navie. She paused her studies but plans to return to college in autumn 2026 to graduate in December.
