A university student is on trial accused of stabbing his housemate 30 times in what the prosecution has described as a "carefully planned and cold-blooded execution". Zack Coughlan, 23, allegedly ambushed Jamie Collins, 21, in the garden of their home in Filton, near Bristol, on 8 April.

Bristol Crown Court heard that Mr Coughlan, dressed in black and wearing a mask, lay in wait for Mr Collins to return home. After the attack, he reportedly cycled away on Mr Collins' bike to dispose of bloodstained evidence, including dumping the bike and throwing clothes into a pond.

The court was told that Mr Coughlan returned home, cooked a pizza, played online games, and then called police eight hours later, claiming he had found his friend stabbed. CCTV footage from their shared home and analysis of Mr Coughlan's mobile phone were presented as evidence matching the killer's movements.

Both men were final-year students at the University of the West of England (UWE), studying robotics and living in a house owned by Mr Coughlan. While Mr Coughlan accepts he killed Mr Collins, he denies murder, with the trial continuing.
