An inquest has heard of the tragic incident in which a 19-year-old student was killed by a falling lift at Reading University's Sibly Hall tower last year.
Andrew Tucker, from Cardiff, was crushed when the lift suddenly dropped almost two metres as he was getting out, trapping him between the landing floor and the roof of the car in May 2023.
Emergency crews, including firefighters and paramedics, fought against time to free Tucker, but he sadly died in the incident.
The inquest, which began today, is expected to examine the cause of the lift's failure and whether it was due to any human error or technical malfunction.
Reading University has been involved in efforts to improve safety on campus, including the installation of new lifts and improved emergency procedures.
The university has not commented on the inquest, but has expressed its condolences to Tucker's family and friends.
