British rock stalwarts Suede have unveiled extensive plans to commemorate the 30th anniversary of their acclaimed 1996 album, 'Coming Up'. The milestone will be marked by a special reissue of the LP, alongside a forthcoming collection of 12-inch singles, offering fans a deep dive into one of the band's most commercially successful and critically lauded periods.
Released at the height of the Britpop era, 'Coming Up' became Suede's third studio album and swiftly soared to the top of the UK albums chart. It spawned five hit singles, including enduring fan favourites such as 'Trash', 'Saturday Night', and 'Beautiful Ones', all of which remain staples in their live performances today. The album also garnered the band their second nomination for the prestigious Mercury Prize, solidifying its place in British music history.
The album held particular significance as it was the first to feature guitarist Richard Oakes, who joined the band following the departure of Bernard Butler after their 1994 release, 'Dog Man Star'. Reflecting on that pivotal time, Oakes noted the creative energy that emerged from the change, stating it was a period where the band felt they had something to prove, declaring, 'No, we’re not done. Just you watch.'
The 'Coming Up' 30th anniversary reissue, distributed via Demon Music, is set for release on 25 September 2026. It will be available across multiple formats, including half-speed mastered black vinyl, vibrant pink and blue blended coloured vinyl, a comprehensive 5CD deluxe box set, and expanded digital editions. The reissue boasts restored artwork by the original design team in collaboration with Peter Saville and photographer Nick Knight, new sleeve notes by music journalist Miranda Sawyer, and includes bonus tracks from the 'Coming Up' era, B-sides, BBC sessions, and new Steven Wilson mixes. As a preview, a rare BBC recording of 'Beautiful Ones' from a 1996 Mark Radcliffe Radio 1 Evening Session has been shared, along with a remastered original video for the track.
The 5CD deluxe box set is particularly extensive, featuring the newly mastered original album, 2026 Steven Wilson stereo mixes, all original B-sides, and bonus tracks like 'Shipbuilding' and 'Coming Up Live At The BBC'. For audiophiles, Atmos and 5.1 mixes of the Steven Wilson versions will be available on Blu-ray audio through the Super Deluxe Edition, which also includes an exclusive green and yellow blended coloured vinyl of the 2026 Steven Wilson Stereo Mix. The digital edition will encompass all five CDs plus 2026 instrumental mixes, with Steven Wilson's Atmos mixes also accessible via Apple Spatial Audio.
Looking ahead to 2027, Suede will also launch a 12-inch singles collection. This series will commence with a 30th-anniversary pressing of 'Trash', available from 14 August 2026, offering collectors and fans another opportunity to own a piece of Suede's iconic output.
