Airlines operating in the UK have reassured passengers that summer flights will proceed as scheduled, despite concerns over the country's jet fuel supply chain.
Managing directors from several major airlines, including Wizz Air UK, EasyJet, and British Airways, have expressed confidence in their ability to meet fuel requirements over the peak summer period.
'We're not seeing an Armageddon situation. We have fuel supply,' said Yvonne Moynihan, managing director of Wizz Air UK.
However, the UK's fuel supply chain has come under scrutiny due to Brexit-related uncertainty and a shortage of HGV drivers. The UK's aviation industry is heavily reliant on imported fuel, with around 90% of jet fuel coming from abroad.
Despite this, airlines are urging passengers to book flights as usual, with many summer routes from UK airports still available. However, British tourists are advised to check their travel insurance policies and visa requirements before booking, particularly if travelling to destinations with specific requirements.
The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has not issued any travel warnings for popular summer destinations such as Spain, France, and Italy. However, some countries require British tourists to obtain a visa before arrival, including Turkey and the United States.
