Sunderland and Bournemouth Draw AC Milan in Europa League

Sunderland and Bournemouth have both been drawn against Italian giants AC Milan in the Europa League league phase, marking significant European campaigns for both clubs.

  • Sunderland will travel to the San Siro to face AC Milan in their first European campaign since 1973.
  • Bournemouth will host AC Milan as they make their debut in European football.
  • Crystal Palace, Celtic, Brighton, and Hearts have also learned their European opponents.

Sunderland are set to embark on their first European campaign since 1973 with a high-profile trip to the San Siro, having been drawn against seven-time European champions AC Milan in the Europa League league phase. The Black Cats, who secured a seventh-place finish in the Premier League last season, will face the Italian side as one of their eight league-phase matches.

Fellow Premier League side Bournemouth have also been handed a tie against AC Milan, though their encounter will be on home soil. The Cherries are making their European debut and will also face Real Sociedad among their eight fixtures.

Elsewhere in the Europa League, last season's Conference League winners Crystal Palace are set for games against Lyon, Real Sociedad, and Besiktas. Scottish Premiership champions Celtic, who moved into the Europa League after a Champions League play-off tie, will take on Marseille, Benfica, and Besiktas.

In the Conference League, Brighton's draw includes fixtures against AS Monaco and Spanish side Getafe. Hearts have also been drawn against Monaco and will face a trip to Trabzonspor.

Why this matters: This marks a significant return to European competition for Sunderland after a long absence and a historic debut for Bournemouth, offering fans high-profile matches against renowned clubs.
