A body, believed to be that of a woman, has been discovered partially submerged in a disused stock dip in a remote stockyard in Terragon, northern New South Wales. Police were called to the property near Murwillumbah at approximately 11:20 am on Monday after reports of a dead body.
Detective Inspector Matthew Zimmer stated that the death is being treated as suspicious. This is due to the body's location, the remoteness of the area, and the absence of any vehicle or other mode of transport. The body was found by two trail bike riders in an area identified as crown land.
Due to the state of decomposition, further details about the body are unavailable, and it is difficult to determine how long the remains had been at the site. A crime scene has been established, with specialist forensic examiners investigating the area. Police are currently checking missing persons registers in both NSW and Queensland. A postmortem examination is anticipated in the coming days to assist with identification and to determine the cause of death.
