Sweden's startup ecosystem has secured $2.8 billion in funding this year and is projected to reach at least $5 billion, according to data from Dealroom. This follows $3.2 billion raised in the previous year, though it remains below the $8.5 billion peak in 2021.
Sophia Bendz, a general partner at Cherry Ventures, attributes the growth in Stockholm's startup scene partly to a cultural shift where founding a company has become a desirable career path. She also noted that a first generation of entrepreneurs is now providing resources and mentorship to newer founders, with some becoming repeat founders themselves.
The ecosystem, home to companies like Spotify and Klarna, is seeing new names emerge such as legal AI startup Legora, vibe-coding tool company Lovable, Neko Health, and autonomous freight company Einride. American investors are reportedly increasingly visiting Sweden to meet with founders.
