Tame Impala's Deadbeat tour has made its way to Australia, almost a year after it began in the US. The tour features 12 arena dates across the country, concluding in Perth, frontman Kevin Parker's hometown. Parker expressed his emotion at playing on home soil during the first show in Brisbane on Friday night.
The live show is noted for its spectacular lighting and laser rig, as well as Parker's distinctive stage presence, which includes a mid-show bathroom break that is filmed and shown to the audience. The band, now featuring James Ireland of Pond, delivers a powerful performance, with drummer Julien Barbagallo's playing described as rib-rattling.
While the newer, melancholic tracks from the *Deadbeat* album are performed, they are interspersed with the band's earlier psychedelic and prog-rock material. The Australian leg of the tour features Ninajirachi as the support act. The two-hour show concludes with the seven-minute acid house track "End of Summer."
