N Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Group, has announced he will not seek reappointment when his term concludes in February 2027. The 63-year-old stated that the decision came after the board of Tata Sons could not reach a resolution on a proposed five-year extension of his term.
The proposal for his extension was first brought before the board in February, but one board member did not support it. Chandrasekaran said that in the absence of unanimous support, he chose to defer the decision, and no resolution was reached even six months later.
Chandrasekaran highlighted the importance of clarity on leadership for employees, investors, partners, and other stakeholders, especially with many strategic projects in critical stages of execution. He was appointed chairman in 2017.
