Team Wales has returned from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with a haul of 31 medals, comprising nine gold, 10 silver, and 12 bronze. This places Wales ninth in the overall medal table, which was topped by Australia with 70 golds.
Sprint cyclist Emma Finucane was a star for Wales, securing four gold medals in four events over four days. The 23-year-old achieved success in the team sprint, individual sprint, keirin, and 1,000m time trial, becoming the first Welsh track cyclist and athlete to accomplish this feat. Finucane was also honoured with carrying the flag at the closing ceremony.
The Glasgow Games saw Wales surpass its 28-medal total from Birmingham in 2022, although they finished one place lower in the medal table. Cycling was the most dominant sport for Wales, contributing 11 medals, followed by swimming with six and athletics with five.
Other notable performances included swimmer Matt Richards, who became the first Welsh swimmer to win four medals at a single Games, earning two silver and two bronze. Gymnast Ruby Evans also delivered a gold medal with a brilliant floor routine, recovering from earlier disappointment in the competition.
Para-athletes contributed significantly, securing 10 medals for Team Wales. This included golds for Para-swimmer Ela Letton-Jones and Para-athletes Olivia Breen and Aled Davies. Boxer Rosie Eccles announced her retirement after winning a bronze medal, completing her set of Commonwealth Games medals.
