York-based teenager Ethan, 14, has taken his passion for football to the small screen after landing a role in the latest season of CBBC show Jamie Johnson FC. Despite being born with a rare skin condition, congenital melanocytic naevus (CMN), Ethan's achievements are a testament to his determination and strength. His parents, Tom and Abbi, expressed their pride in their son's accomplishments, stating that his birthmark had 'never defined him'.
The show's executive producer, Sam Talbot, highlighted the importance of representation and diversity, saying, 'We want all children to see themselves represented on screen and to feel that they belong in the stories we tell.' Ethan's non-speaking role in the series has given him valuable experience, with the young footballer admitting that it was 'surreal' at times. Despite the challenges, Ethan is keen to continue his acting career, stating that he would 'definitely go back for another' season.
Ethan's footballing career is also flourishing, with the teenager currently training with Leeds United scout and coach Callum McKenzie. He has been selected to play in a PYE Elite team at an international tournament in Sweden. The family's experience with Ethan's rare condition has led them to raise awareness and support for CMN charity Caring Matters Now, with CEO Jodi Whitehouse praising the positive impact of representation on children's confidence and self-acceptance.
The latest season of Jamie Johnson FC is now available to watch on BBC iPlayer, with Ethan's episode being a heartwarming and inspiring addition to the series. As the young footballer continues to pursue his passions, he is an inspiration to many, showing that determination and hard work can overcome any obstacle.
