Teenage sensation Noah Caluori has expressed his ambition to make his senior England rugby debut this summer, following a remarkable season that saw him named the Gallagher Premiership Breakthrough Player of the Year. The Saracens wing, who topped the Premiership's try-scoring charts with an impressive 18 tries, has earned a call-up to Steve Borthwick's England squad for the forthcoming Nations Championship.
Caluori's meteoric rise culminated in a stunning debut campaign for Saracens, where he twice scored five tries in a single game. His assured performances have now put him in contention for an uncapped fixture against a France XV this Friday in Vannes, and potentially for senior caps in July against formidable opponents such as South Africa, Fiji, and Argentina.
The 19-year-old credits a strong focus on goal-setting and a desire for continuous improvement as key to his success. He also highlighted the invaluable support and guidance received from senior clubmates at Saracens, including England captain Maro Itoje. Caluori recounted a pivotal moment in his first England camp when Itoje advised him against 'cruising through' and urged him to 'make the most' of the opportunity, a piece of advice that evidently resonated deeply with the young player.
Caluori's development has been carefully managed throughout the season, with stints in the Championship with Ampthill and appearances for both England A and the England Under-20s, alongside his senior commitments with Saracens. This measured approach has allowed him to gain experience across different levels of the game, preparing him for the demands of international rugby.
While Caluori is poised for a potential debut, the participation of his mentor Maro Itoje in the summer fixtures remains uncertain, as England considers resting their captain. Itoje will not feature in the Vannes match. Head coach Steve Borthwick is expected to announce his matchday 23 for the France XV game on Wednesday, with several players from beaten Premiership semi-finalists Bath and Leicester joining the camp, though some, like Sam Underhill and Ben Spencer, are reportedly nursing injuries.
