The streets surrounding the Islamic College of Brisbane in Karawatha were filled with police cars and forensic teams on Tuesday afternoon, following an alleged stabbing that left a 17-year-old boy fighting for his life. The incident occurred at approximately 11:45 AM, during what would have been a typical school day.
Queensland police confirmed the victim was rushed to hospital in urgent need of treatment, with officials from the Princess Alexandra Hospital later stating that the teenager's condition had stabilised and he remained under care in the intensive care unit.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested on Tuesday afternoon and is currently assisting police with their inquiries. While no charges have been laid as of yet, detectives believe the two teenagers were familiar with each other prior to the alleged altercation.
Police are urging anyone who may possess relevant CCTV or dashcam footage from the area surrounding the school to come forward and assist with the investigation. Officers are also conducting increased patrols in the vicinity, as they work to piece together the circumstances surrounding this disturbing incident.
This is not an isolated event; it follows a separate alleged stabbing at a school in Cairns on Monday, 12 July 2026, where a 15-year-old boy was charged with one count of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm. He appeared in the Cairns children's court on Tuesday.
