Three teenage boys have been charged with murder following a fatal stabbing in Luton. The individuals, a 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds, appeared before Luton Magistrates' Court facing charges of murder, violent disorder, and possession of a bladed article. Their names cannot be released due to their age.
The charges stem from an incident on Friday evening, where Bedfordshire Police were called to Kingsway Recreation Ground at approximately 6:30 PM BST following reports of violent disorder. Officers discovered a 17-year-old boy suffering from stab wounds. He was subsequently taken to hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Following their court appearance, the three teenagers have been remanded in custody, awaiting further court proceedings. The tragic death has prompted a significant police presence and ongoing investigation in the local area.
Beyond the three charged, other arrests have been made in connection with the case. Another 17-year-old boy, who was arrested over the weekend, has since been released on bail as inquiries continue. A further 17-year-old, arrested on Friday and receiving hospital treatment for serious injuries, remains in police custody.
Detective Chief Inspector Nick Gardener of Bedfordshire Police acknowledged the community's shock, assuring residents that detectives have been working tirelessly on the case. He confirmed that increased police patrols and a visible police presence would continue in the area to provide reassurance. The victim has yet to be formally identified, and specially trained officers are providing support to his grieving family.
