The state of Tennessee plans to execute Christa Pike on 30 September. If carried out, this would mark the first execution of a woman in Tennessee since 1819.

Pike would be the third individual brought to the death chamber in Tennessee this year. Since 1960, 17 other people have been executed in the state, none of whom were women.

Across US history, 578 women have been executed, representing slightly more than 3% of the country's total executions. The most recent was Amber McLaughlin in Missouri in 2024.
