Tesco is reportedly in discussions to sell its operations in Slovakia, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. The supermarket chain is said to be in talks with the owners of Lidl regarding the potential divestment.
These Central European operations collectively represent a little under a tenth of Tesco's total turnover. If the sale proceeds, it would add these three countries to a growing list of markets from which Tesco has withdrawn over the past decade.
The company has previously pulled out of various international locations, including France, the US, Japan, Malaysia, Poland, South Korea, Thailand, and Turkey. This trend suggests a retreat from its European operations beyond the UK and Ireland.
