Jeff and Janice Ivey, a couple from New Braunfels, Texas, are in the process of moving permanently to Wrexham. Their decision stems from watching the "Welcome to Wrexham" documentary series, which follows Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's ownership of Wrexham AFC.
The couple's initial trip to the city in 2024 was prompted by an email exchange with Michael Hett, singer of the Wrexham band the Declan Swans, after a merchandise order issue. Jeff Ivey, 62, who holds UK citizenship through Scottish ancestry, is currently house-hunting in Wrexham. Janice Ivey, 65, is in the USA selling their home and awaiting her visa.
Jeff Ivey stated that the community aspect of Wrexham, along with its welcoming and friendly people, convinced them to move. He also noted an affinity with the city's working-class and industrial background, which reminded them of their own upbringing in Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh.
The Iveys have already begun volunteering at the Wrexham Miners Project and supporting Hope House, a children's hospice. Jeff Ivey is also learning Welsh and intends to get involved in Wrexham's bid to become the UK's City of Culture for 2029.
