TfL's popular Cycle Sundays programme returns this summer, with unlimited free 60-minute Santander Cycle rides available on selected Sundays until September 15th, 2024. The initiative aims to encourage more Londoners to experience cycling in the capital and promote active travel.
Participants will need to download the Santander Cycles app to take advantage of the free cycle hire. A unique promotional code will be made available each Sunday, allowing users to activate their free rides and enjoy multiple 60-minute journeys throughout the day.
Cycle Sundays proved highly successful in previous years, attracting thousands of new and returning cyclists. The scheme is part of TfL's broader strategy to promote active travel, reduce congestion, and improve air quality across London.
By making cycling more accessible and affordable, TfL hopes to encourage a wider demographic to embrace two-wheeled transport, whether for leisure, commuting, or exploring the city. Cycling offers numerous health benefits, including improved cardiovascular fitness and mental well-being, aligning with public health objectives.
The reintroduction of Cycle Sundays also highlights ongoing investment in cycling infrastructure across London, with TfL and local authorities expanding protected cycle lanes and quietways over recent years. This expanded network makes cycling safer and more appealing for all ages and abilities.
