Thailand is set to reduce visa-free stays for passport holders from several nations, including the UK, US, Canada, and Australia, from 60 to 30 days. This change will take effect from 15 September.
The new regulation means that the possible length of a trip to Thailand without a visa will be halved for these travellers. The UK Foreign Office (FCDO) currently advises that visitors can stay for 60 days for tourism, business, and urgent work, with a possible extension of up to 30 days.
The Ministry of Interior and Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced the revocation of the previous visa exemption list. This decision, published in the Royal Gazette on 31 August, was made "taking into account national security, the economy and the promotion of tourism."
Additionally, holidaymakers entering Thailand via a land border checkpoint will be limited to two entries per calendar year under the new rules. This restriction does not apply to nationals of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore, or to international arrivals by air.
