The Anchoress unleashes her unbridled passion on 'Throw Over Your Man', a track that combusts with the same fiery energy as Virginia Woolf's tantalising letters to Vita Sackville-West. The song, a thrilling collaboration with Manic Street Preachers' James Dean Bradfield, is an ode to the intoxicating thrill of initial infatuation – and it's clear Davies has been bitten by the love bug.
The single draws its creative spark from Woolf's electrifying correspondence with Sackville-West, specifically a 1927 letter that left Davies breathless. 'Throw Over Your Man', she explains, is a 'celebratory queer anthem' born from the exhilarating rush of first falling in love – and Woolf's words are its guiding light.
Davies's reverence for Woolf knows no bounds: her PhD in literature and queer theory was forged in the fire of Woolf's works, which offered a 'profound awakening' during her teenage years. The Manic Street Preachers have been instrumental in kindling her creative spark, teaching her to merge literary grandeur with rock music – making Bradfield an intuitive partner who instinctively grasped the project's essence.
The initial plan was for Bradfield to add some scorching guitar work, but it soon morphed into an 'accidental duet' when he injected his vocals into the chorus. This is a reunion of sorts, building on their previous collaborations – including Davies touring with the Manics and contributing to their 2018 album 'Resistance Is Futile'. The single serves as a tantalising preview for The Anchoress's upcoming album, 'As We Once Were', set for release on August 7.
But just as things were heating up, disaster struck: Davies suffered a broken arm during music video production – and had to undergo surgery with a metal plate inserted. This setback temporarily derailed the video's completion, but The Anchoress refuses to be thrown off track.
