Three men jailed for rape of teenager after Snapchat grooming

Three men have been jailed for the rape of a 17-year-old girl in Bristol last year, following a grooming incident via Snapchat.

  • Mehrab Safi, 21, was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
  • Awal Ahmadzai and Salman Habibkheli, both 19, received nine-year sentences in a youth detention centre.
  • The three men were stopped by French police while attempting to flee the UK in a lorry.

Three Afghan nationals have been jailed for the rape of a teenage girl in Bristol last year. Mehrab Safi, 21, Awal Ahmadzai, 19, and Salman Habibkheli, 19, were found guilty on 26 June of multiple offences against the 17-year-old girl at a house in St Werburghs.

Safi initially met the girl while she was Christmas shopping and groomed her over Snapchat, later paying for a taxi to bring her to Bristol. Avon and Somerset Police stated that the girl was given alcohol upon arrival at Safi's home, where she was then sexually assaulted and raped over several hours in November last year by the three men and a teenager.

Safi was sentenced to 15 years at Bristol Crown Court on Tuesday. Habibkheli and Ahmadzai were both sentenced to nine years in a youth detention centre. A 17-year-old boy, who was also convicted of rape, received a sentence of two years and seven months in a youth detention centre, but he did not attempt to leave the UK.

Officers located the girl after her mother reported her missing. The court heard a victim impact statement from the girl, who said the attack had left her "traumatised" and fearful of leaving her home.
