Three people have died while attempting to reach the UK on a small boat, after their bodies were discovered off the coast of Dunkirk on Thursday morning. The French coastguard confirmed the deaths.
Maritime authorities in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin stated that the boat was spotted around 6am, and the three individuals on board were found unresponsive. Rescue crews brought them to shore, where paramedics confirmed their deaths.
The incident occurred after Wednesday saw one of the busiest days for small boat crossings this year, with numerous attempts made throughout the day amid hot, sunny weather and calm sea conditions.
