Three scientists have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2026 for their research into the brain. Karl Deisseroth, Peter Hegemann, and Georg Nagel will share the 12 million Swedish kronor prize.
The award recognises their discoveries concerning 'light-gated ion channels and optogenetics'. Deisseroth is affiliated with both Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Stanford University, Hegemann with Humboldt University of Berlin, and Nagel with the University of Würzburg.
