A powerful storm is forecast to bring thunderstorms and heavy rain to St Helens, Merseyside, prompting a yellow weather warning from the Met Office. The warning, which comes into effect at 9am on Friday, will remain in place until 10pm on Saturday.
The Met Office has identified a band of rain and thunderstorms that is expected to sweep east across the country, bringing heavy showers and strong winds to the area. St Helens residents are advised to take precautions and stay safe during this time, particularly if they have outdoor plans or commute.
Elsewhere in the UK, similar warnings have been issued for parts of Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, where strong winds and heavy rain are expected to cause disruption to travel and outdoor activities. Temperatures will remain relatively mild in St Helens, ranging from 18-20°C, but wind speeds of up to 30mph will make conditions hazardous.
The Met Office is urging drivers to exercise extreme caution on the roads, as flooded areas and slippery surfaces are likely to cause accidents. Residents are advised to stay indoors during the worst of the weather and avoid walking or driving through flooded areas, where possible.
